With so many City employees working from home during the COVID pandemic, ITA's focus on network and voice engineering has become unparalleled. For this reason, this season's spotlight is on the ITA Citywide Data/Voice/Fiber Network Engineering section. This team is led by Carlos Octoman and composed of a group of Associates, a Senior Systems Analyst, and three contractors. This capable group applies communications innovations in its designs for City departments and employees. This section also serves as an escalation point for critical networking issues. The highly trained staff are adept in developing communications channels that are flexible, scalable, and resilient for the City of Los Angeles. The team works closely with the operations group to implement in their design troubleshoot.
Here is a glimpse of the team's recent achievements:
-
Citywide and LAPD network core upgrade was completed, providing high network availability and the decommissioning of obsolete firewall devices.
-
LAFD’s network was upgraded, improving the availability and performance of their network
-
LAPD VoIP was upgraded at 13 stations with new Cisco 9400 routers
-
